Gladicus thrust his sword upwards into the dragon's neck. The beast thrashed, driving the blade deeper and hastening its demise. In desperation, it attempted to breathe fire, but the lengthy fight had drained the creature's pyrobladder, and it barely managed to heat its own saliva into steam.
At long last, Drogdor the Maidenbane collapsed.
The dwarven battle bard Thrumblina strummed a conclusive chord, and the group cheered in victory.
As their heart rates returned to normal and they began to sift through the treasure, the elven mage Arcanius reflected on their situation.
"Guys, that was a really satisfying dungeon."
"Heh, yeah," grunted Olaf, a half-orc barbarian.
"I mean, from a character perspective," Arcanius elaborated. "Gladicus, you've always hid in the shadows, but look at you now. You went right up to the dragon and stabbed it in the neck."
The rogue beamed, for once happy to be noticed.
"And, Thrumblina, you're honest to a fault. But we walked right past the dragon cultists without a fight after you pretended to be a devotee bringing Drogdor a sacrificial snack."
Thrumblina looked up from polishing a golden goblet and winked at Arcanius. "And look who finally pulled her head out of a magical tome long enough to notice her friends.”
The group laughed heartily. Olaf the half-Orc laughed too, even if he didn't follow the meta-humor.
For ten seconds, the party quietly encumbered themselves with the most fungible parts of the dragon's hoard. Then Olaf asked, "What about Olaf?"
The group shared a guilty look as they all thought the same thought.
"Olaf," Thrumblina gently said. "It was really smart how you got us through the labyrinth."
"Yeah!" chimed in Arcanius. "Attacking the dragon cultists after we snuck past them so we could get the map. Very smart!"
"Even smarter than normal!" Gladicus hastily added, "Which is normally pretty smart already!"
Olaf slowly blinked as he glacially processed his party's feedback.
"Hey!" the half-Orc bellowed. "I am smart!!!"
He cheerily patted Arcanius on the back. "You should teach me how to read!"

you thought about this one.
Now I am wondering about dragon saliva properties
I cut this gag from a much longer story because it was just too meta. I'm glad it lives on here!
